Harald E. Fricker

1960-2019

Harald E. Fricker, 58, graphic designer, web developer, writer, musician, inventor, entrepreneur and local athlete from Eagle passed away on Tuesday, January 8th. Born on January 13th, 1960 in Karlsruhe, Germany, Fricker moved to the US with his family in 1969, arriving in the Vail Valley in 1974.

Fricker is survived by his children, Kiah of Denver, Colorado and Miles Fricker of Eagle, Colorado, his sister Susanne Edrington and brother in law Don Edrington of Hong Kong, his nieces Kristina Edrington of Orange County, California and Elisabeth Edrington of Denver, Colorado his father, Helmut Fricker and ex-wife Nancy Jo King of Eagle. He was preceded in death in 2017 by his mother Ursula Fricker.

Fricker, a 1978 graduate of Battle Mountain High School was best known as designer and endurance athlete. He was one of the first web developers in Colorado. He is a former owner of the Vail Academy of Martial Arts, RockAerobics Fitness Center, Vail Trophy and Engraving and Vail Sign Corporation. He was a percussionist in many local bands in his teens and twenties and more recently jammed with a variety of musicians and played in a group with childhood friend Dennis Ward. Fricker had a long running sports column in the Vail Daily called “Fast Forward” and was President of Vail Mountain Runners from 1985-1995. He wrote and published two books on the Pikes Peak Marathon entitled “America’s Ultimate Challenge”.

He was director of the Vail Nordic Center from 1989 to 1995. He is also known as one of the innovators of modern snowshoeing because of his successful product testing and marketing of Redfeather and Atlas snowshoes in the early 90’s. He managed the Park Hyatt Business Center from 2002 to 2006. He also restored antiques with the Wood Doctor based in Eagle. Most recently he was president and owner of CyberWizard Interactive with which he developed over 400 websites, thousands of logos and promotional products. He was also the inventor of a soccer training device. In 2013 he started a new company, HAMIKI which developed unique Colorado flag products including custom headbands and bandannas, now distributed throughout the US.

Fricker's passions included running and fitness, art, videography, product innovation, reading, documentaries, cooking, technology, psychology, woodworking and music.
